The Ondrášek Concert Choir and Ondrášek Chamber Choir from the Nový Jičín Music School will perform on stage in Prague – two exceptional ensembles that are among the most successful Czech choirs of recent decades. Under the baton of conductor Boris Nykl and with piano accompaniment by Tomáš Vrána, they will perform a varied program ranging from Renaissance to contemporary works, including original compositions written especially for Ondrášek.
During its more than 58 years of existence, Ondrášek has made a name for itself on prestigious stages around the world – from Washington to Tampere to Kaunas and Jūrmala – and regularly collects awards, including Grand Prix and gold medals.
The Ondrášek Chamber Choir, composed of former and current members of the concert choir, also boasts extraordinary successes in international competitions and proves with its interpretations that choral singing can be just as thrilling as an orchestral concert.

The Doshisha University Orchestra is one of the most prestigious and oldest youth orchestras in Japan.
The musical history of this ensemble, composed of students from a private university founded in the 19th century, dates back to the 1920s. These young musicians are visiting the Czech Republic for the fifth time, and once again they will be performing the music of Antonín Dvořák, whose work is extremely popular in Japan. They will perform Dvořák’s Carnival Overture, Op. 92, which will open the evening with its energy and colorfulness. The program will also feature Music for Symphony Orchestra by Japanese composer Yasushi Akutagawa, which clearly reflects the influences of Dmitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev. The concert will conclude with Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 73, a work full of lyricism and optimism that represents one of the pinnacles of Romantic symphonic composition.

Concert by the Australian Youth Orchestra as part of the Musica Orbis Concert Series
The Sydney Youth Orchestra (SYO) was founded in 1973 by visionary music teacher and conductor Peter Seymour. Over more than 43 years, SYO has grown into a community of 450 young musicians aged 6–24 from Sydney and the surrounding area. The SYO educates future professional musicians who go on to become part of major Australian and international orchestras. SYO alumni include Richard Tognetti, Kirsten Williams, Nigel Westlake, Shefali Pryor, Anne-Louise Comerford, Marina Marsden, Philip Arkinstall, Geoff O’Reilly, Matthew Coorey, Lyn Williams, Paul Goodchild, Owen Morris, and many others. It is no exaggeration to say that Australian professional orchestras would not exist without the professional training provided by Sydney Youth Orchestras, which transforms students into professionals. The Sydney Youth Orchestra is SYO’s flagship orchestra, featuring 85 of the most talented musicians.
